Researchers say it is too early to draw any conclusions about public health risk from research showing that mosquitoes that had ingested AIDS-contaminated blood were later discovered to carry the AIDS virus. “We have no definite conclusions yet,” said Dr. Jai Nayar, an insect specialist at the Medical Entomology Laboratory in Vero Beach, Fla. The Atlanta Constitution, which reported on the finding, said that research by the National Institutes of Health was continuing to determine if this represented a public health concern. Dr. Robert Gallo, who is conducting the research for the National Cancer Institute, refused to comment.
