Thunderstorms dropped as much as five inches of rain on the central part of the country and were blamed for at least two deaths in Indiana. Intense lightning accompanied storms over the Dakotas, while heavy rain in extreme southwest Louisiana prompted a flash flood warning for eastern Calcasieu Parish. Lake Charles, La., was deluged with nearly five inches of rain in 18 hours--2.68 inches of that coming between 7 and 8 a.m., the National Weather Service said.
