New armor on Soviet tanks reportedly makes them nearly impenetrable by anti-tank weapons carried by U.S. and NATO forces. Unidentified U.S. military officials told the New York Times that the new armor could decisively tip the balance against U.S. weaponry in a n1869491566by Israel and copied by Moscow three years ago, resembles boxes slung over the outside of the tanks. The boxes, packed with high explosives, detonate when struck by an anti-tank shell, dispersing the high-velocity gases and penetrating metal of anti-tank projectiles.
