Compton : Tucker Fraud Case Delayed

Share

A preliminary hearing in the real estate fraud case against Martha Tucker, wife of Compton Mayor Walter R. Tucker, was postponed until Aug. 18 after prosecutors announced last week that they are investigating new, apparently similar, allegations.

The mayor’s wife and sister-in-law, Barbara Hall, are accused of defrauding a wheelchair-bound Long Beach man out of $45,000 by forging documents and failing to deposit the money in an escrow account. Both women have pleaded innocent and have since repaid the money as settlement of a related civil lawsuit.

Assistant Atty. Gen. Terry Fugimoto told a Municipal Court judge that he has discussed a “tentative disposition” in the felony case with defense lawyers, but Tucker and Hall have declined to make any plea agreement until they know whether new charges are going to be filed. After the hearing, Fugimoto declined to discuss details of the new allegations.
