A new federal indictment accused 12 Miami police officers of running a drug rip-off ring and charged some with plotting to kill trial witnesses. The 55-page indictment, the fourth in the case, is based partly on information from three former officers named in earlier indictments who have agreed to testify for the government. With the new information, the grand jury added six police officers and three civilians to the original indictment. In addition to charges that the ring stole and resold $15 million in cocaine, the new indictment also said the officers stole bags of Quaaludes and resold them, and attempted to extort $10,000 from a man they arrested.
