County Board Rude

Share

Residents of Santee recently had the unique pleasure of seeing our San Diego County Board of Supervisors “in action.”

Never before have I witnessed a ruder grouping of individuals than our board.

One hundred-plus residents of Santee gave up their morning to share concerns for our overcrowded jail situation, to discuss valuable site locations and even to offer financial augmentation, only to be received with yawns, a 25-minute delay in the scheduled meeting, Supervisor Susan Golding continuously yapping on the phone and all supervisors whispering among themselves.

During the desperate appeals of the citizens of Santee, the question of our ability to conclude before lunch surfaced several times from Supervisor Leon Williams. Had I known that “feeding time” would play such a vital role in voting, I would have offered to prepare a breakfast for the board so that less importance would be placed on bodily needs and more importance on the subject at hand.

All in all, regardless of the uneducated, irrational and prejudiced decision made by our County Board of Supervisors, I did get something out of the time I spent observing them. I plan to work harder on improving social manners and instilling common courtesy both in myself and in my children. After what I witnessed today, the world could stand a little refresher course.
