British and Italian archeologists have found a 2,500-year-old Greek ship on the ocean floor off the tiny Sicilian island of Panarea, the AGI news agency reported.

The agency said Saturday that the vessel and its cargo of ceramic objects, mostly buried in volcanic mud, were in good condition. It quoted experts as saying the mud and sulfuric gas kept the water temperature high enough to prevent corrosion.

According to the agency, the ship was found last month by a group of Oxford University scholars and Italian experts, who had been exploring the area for a year.
