AIDS-Infected Rapist Acquitted in Munich

MUNICH, West Germany —
An AIDS-infected man who raped a young Moroccan woman was acquitted Monday of attempted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
A Munich judge ruled that Mohsen Cherif, a 26-year-old Tunisian, was not responsible for his actions but ordered him into psychiatric care, saying he was a danger to the public.
Cherif admitted having had sex with several women recently, although he had known for at least two years that he had the acquired immune deficiency syndrome virus, the judge said.
