Standard Brands Paint employees might oppose a takeover. The United Food and Commercial Workers Union, which represents 1,750 of Standard Brands’ 3,600 employees, told a New Zealand investment firm that it will fight efforts to buy the Torrance-based paint retailer if a takeover means jobs will be lost. The investment firm, Chase Corp. of New Zealand, has offered $28 a share.
