Foreign ministers of the Organization of African Unity pledged more military and financial support for liberation movements in southern Africa. At talks in Addis Ababa, Ethiopian Foreign Minister Berhanu Bayeh reportedly renewed his country’s offer to “train and arm 10,000 freedom fighters of southern African liberation movements.” Meanwhile, in Lusaka, Zambian Prime Minister Kebby Musokotwane told a meeting of the Southern African Development Coordination Conference that black nations bordering South Africa face a huge task in reducing their dependence on Pretoria’s military and economic power.
