Convoy Passes Midway Point

MANAMA, Bahrain —
U.S. warships today escorted two reflagged Kuwaiti tankers past Bahrain, the midway point of their voyage to Kuwait through the perilous Persian Gulf.
Gulf shipping sources said the convoy steamed past the island state, roughly 250 miles south of Kuwait’s Al Ahmadi oil terminal, at mid-morning. It was expected to complete its 500-mile trip Friday. The convoy, which originally included three U.S. warships, linked up with a fourth Navy warship, the cruiser Reeves, late Wednesday.
