Di Giorgio lost $4.3 million in the second quarter compared to earnings of $6.2 million in the year-ago period. The San Francisco-based diversified food products and building materials company, which recently rejected a takeover bid from New York money manager Mario J. Gabelli, blamed its loss on a former subsidiary, TreeSweet, which defaulted on a $32-million loan in April. Revenue was up 9%.
