Nicaragua City Gets U.S. Garbage Truck
A $21,500 garbage truck left Ann Arbor on Thursday for its sister city of Juigalpa, Nicaragua, loaded with gifts and bearing a sign saying the truck was “propelled by friendship.”
Tom Rieke, one of three members of Ann Arbor’s Central America Sister City Task Force, called out “Adios” as the truck pulled out before dawn. On the side of the truck was a banner reading “Tren de Aseo Impulsado por Amistad,” or “Garbage Truck Propelled by Friendship.”
Last November, a 17-member group traveled from Ann Arbor to Juigalpa and learned of the city’s need for a garbage truck.
