Pasadena : Caltech Scientists Honored

Caltech has announced that Christof Koch, assistant professor of computation and neural systems, and Don L. Anderson, professor of geophysics and director of the Caltech Seismology Laboratory, have received major awards.

Koch has been named an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation of New York, receiving $25,000 for research. He is studying how nerve cells in the visual system are organized and how they process information. His work includes designing the sensory system of the Martian Land Rover, scheduled to survey Mars in the next decade.

Anderson received the Arthur L. Day Medal from the Geological Society of America for his research and theories on the structure and formation of the Earth, moon and planets.
