Businesses and transportation throughout the capital were shut down today by a general strike called to protest the army’s killing of at least eight anti-government protesters and demand that the military-dominated regime resign.

Before dawn, seven radio stations were riddled with bullets by unidentified gunmen. No one was reported injured in the attacks. Opposition groups that called the general strike did not set any termination date. Shops and businesses were closed today, and there was no public transportation. On Wednesday, soldiers opened fire on about 2,500 people who marched peacefully downtown.
