Hilton Hotel Completes Renovation

The $60-million renovation of the Los Angeles Hilton and Towers has been completed at Wilshire Boulevard and Figueroa Street in downtown Los Angeles, according to the owners, the Reliance Development Group.

Larry Kirk, general manager of the hotel that continues to be managed by Hilton Hotels Corp., said that the renovation has added two new restaurants, updated the hotel’s meeting facilities, redesigned the guest rooms and opened the 94-room Towers’ one- and two-bedroom premium accommodations on the 15th and 16th floors. There is a separate staff and concierge for the Towers.

Designed by Los Angeles architect Jungsoo Kwak, the renovation reduced the number of rooms from 1,165 to 901 through the creation of Tower suites and enlargement of other rooms. It also resulted in the refurbishment of the hotel’s 40,000 square feet of meeting space and the creation of what is reportedly the only video teleconferencing room in a Southland hotel.

New York-based Reliance purchased the hotel for $70 million in August, 1983. The renovation began in December, 1984. The hotel was completed in 1952 by the Statler chain and was sold to Hilton two years later.
