A former University of Michigan health-care economics expert has been named recipient of a new chair at UC Irvine’s Graduate School of Management.

Paul J. Feldstein, a professor at the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health since 1964, has accepted the FHP Foundation Distinguished Chair in Health Care Management at UCI, a UCI spokeswoman said.

In his new position, Feldstein “will be responsible for new curriculum in health care management within the UCI Graduate School of Management, working closely with the medical school and other units on campus and interacting with the health care industry in Orange County,” university spokeswoman Cynthia L. Morris said. Feldstein also will continue to teach and conduct research.

The new chair was created last year by a $1.1-million grant by the FHP Foundation of Long Beach.

Feldstein is the author of four books, including “Health Care Economics,” published in 1983. He received his doctorate in economics from the University of Chicago.
