Gerald Hollek, suspected of killing his two daughters, will be arraigned today in Nevada County Superior Court on two counts of first-degree murder, Sheriff Bill Heafy said. Heafy also said the district attorney will seek the death penalty. Hollek, 33, was captured Monday night, about two miles from the Northern California campground where 7-year-old Anna Hollek and her 5-year-old sister, Alyssia, perished in a recreational vehicle fire early Saturday. Witnesses told authorities that they saw Hollek standing beside the van with a gasoline can shortly before fire engulfed the vehicle. The witnesses also said Hollek disappeared as campers tried to rescue the children. Hollek and his former wife, Amy Eunice Nelson, 32, had been involved in a bitter battle over custody of the two girls.
