Hawaiian Gardens : Baseball Funds in Budget

The Hawaiian Gardens City Council has adopted a $3.1-million budget for 1987-88. As part of the package, the council approved spending $12,000 to expand the city’s youth baseball program. The money will be used to improve playing fields, buy equipment and uniforms and add more teams, Mayor Rosalie Sher said.

The council also approved $178,000 for the city’s own sheriff’s car to patrol the city during a six-month trial period. Hawaiian Gardens contracts with the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station for law enforcement services.

In an effort to crack down on building code violators, the council allocated $20,000 for a code enforcement program. A full-time deputy city clerk and a full-time administrative aide will be added to the city staff this year. A 3% cost-of-living pay increase was approved for all city employees, Sher said.
