Dave Kingman left the Phoenix Firebirds of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League following Tuesday night’s game against Albuquerque after receiving no offers to join a major league club.
He joined the Firebirds July 11 after signing a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants. The contract contained a unique clause giving Kingman the right to release himself at any time.
Kingman played in 20 games for the Firebirds, hitting .203 with 2 home runs and 11 RBIs. He sat out the final three games with Phoenix with an injury to his right big toe.
Kingman did not come to bat in his final outing with Phoenix but treated his teammates to steaks after the game.
