BONN — Relatives of 14 Chileans facing possible execution in Chile appealed to the Bonn government Thursday for the accused to be granted asylum in West Germany.
“These men have been imprisoned for their political views. There is no proof acceptable in Western law to support the charges against them,” the group’s lawyer, Sergio Corvalan, told a news conference. Rightists in the government here have opposed the request, saying the 14 are guilty of terrorism and other violent crimes.
