The action will be provided mostly by thoroughbreds, but there will also be quarter horses, Arabians and Appaloosas running this season at the Orange County Fair, which opens tonight at Los Alamitos.

The fair will run for 14 nights, through Aug. 22, with post time for the first race at 7:30. There is no racing on Sundays.

Jockey Gary Stevens will be riding at Del Mar this afternoon, then will double up at the fair tonight with a mount in the $25,000 Orange County Matron Stakes.

Antonio Castanon and Corey Black tied for the thoroughbred riding title last year, winning 15 races apiece. Black is also scheduled to ride at the fair this year.

The richest races on the fair’s schedule are two $35,000 stakes--the Las Palmas Aug. 21 and the Orange County Handicap Aug. 22.
