Fouts Throws on Sideline for First Time

Charger quarterback Dan Fouts practiced for the first time Friday, although it was only for about 10 minutes on the sideline.

Fouts dropped back and threw short passes to rookie wide receiver Al Williams, and then jogged off the field for more treatment on his sore back.

Charger Coach Al Saunders said that it was encouraging to see Fouts throwing but that the Chargers are not going to rush him into live drills.

“We’ve waited this long to get him on the field, so we decided that it was not wise to get him into 7-on-7 drills just yet,” Saunders said. “He threw today and said he didn’t feel bad.”

Saunders said Fouts may practice in 7-on-7 drills this afternoon, depending on how he reacted to Friday’s workout.
