In a burst of speed at the finish line, Alan McCormack of Ireland won Friday’s 49.5-mile Hilo criterium, the third stage of the 19-day, 1,385-mile Coors International bicycle race.

McCormack’s win, in 1:41:51, was not enough to overcome the overall lead held by Raul Alcala, 23, of Monterrey, Mexico, who continued to wear the leader’s red jersey.

McCormack, 31, said: “I was tired from yesterday, and it was hard to start, but I had some help from my teammates.”
