Most junior high school students polled in a national survey believe Japan will not again wage war, but about half of those who believe it will think the United States and not the Soviet Union will be the enemy, a leading newspaper reported Friday.

The Asahi Shimbun said the report was based on a survey of about 1,200 junior high school students picked at random across the nation.

The survey showed that 38% of those polled anticipated Japan would become involved in another war, while 62% did not.

Of those who predicted another war, 49% picked the United States as Japan’s likely adversary, compared with 41% for the Soviet Union and 3% for China. Only 3% predicted another world war.
