Hearing for Tenants, Landlord Delayed

Share

The owners and tenants of the Hollywood Biltmore apartments will have to wait a few weeks before they can fight it out in court over plans to renovate the building.

The building’s new owner, Realty Investors and Property Management, had shut off the water for eight hours a day, five days a week for much of July. The real estate company said the shut-off was necessary to make plumbing repairs.

But tenants contended that the owners were trying to force them out by making living conditions unbearable. If the tenants move out, the owners can bring in new tenants at higher rents once renovations have been completed.

Last month, a county Superior Court judge ordered that the water be turned back on pending a hearing. That hearing, scheduled for last Thursday, was continued to Aug. 24.
