Pasadena : Neighbors Oppose Project

Share

Neighbors of the proposed Rose Townhomes project turned out in unexpected force Monday to oppose the 16-acre housing development that would be built just north of Pasadena High School on Washington Boulevard.

The project, one of the largest housing developments ever proposed for the city, would include 200 homes and bring an estimated 500 new residents into the quiet neighborhood. Residents complained at the public hearing that the project, with an average of 12 homes per acre, is too dense for the neighborhood.

The developers, Calmark Development Co., said the project has less than the 262 homes allowed under the city’s long-range general land-use plan.

The board made no decision Monday on the developers’ request for a zoning change that would allow the development. It is scheduled to resume its review of the developers’ application Sept. 8 at City Hall.
