The bishops’ committee that investigated the Southern Methodist University football scandal will deny Texas Atty. Gen. Jim Mattox access to its records, the Dallas Times Herald reported.

The panel will tell Mattox in a letter that the bishops’ committee is separate from the university and members intend to honor a pledge to their witnesses to keep testimony secret, a bishops’ spokesman said.
