A 10-year-old boy who flew across the country and into the record books last month returned Sunday to a jubilant hometown crowd, promising more ambitious flights to come.

Christopher Lee Marshall landed at 2:08 p.m. at the airport in Oceano, almost a month after he took off on his successful attempt to become the youngest pilot ever to fly across the country.

Marshall told family and friends at the airport that he had a “fine” flight, and especially remembered flying his rented Piper Warrior through a hurricane over Mississippi on his way from Oceano to Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The boy also said he has new aviation aspirations.

“I’m thinking about flying around the world next summer.”
