A Federal task force is probing connections between the thrift and real estate industries in north Texas. The Texas thrift industry leads the nation in financial losses and failures, and is seen as a major cause of the current insolvency of the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corp. The Dallas Times Herald had reported that a federal grand jury in Dallas was ordering many Texas thrifts to surrender everything in their files connected to 290 Texans, many of them prominent in the real estate and savings and loan industries.
