An Israeli military court in the occupied West Bank charged two Palestinians with the March 2, 1986, murder of Nablus Mayor Zafer Masri and the killing of two Israelis in Nablus, security sources said. The suspects were members of the Syrian-backed Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Responsibility for the killing was claimed by this group, which said the mayor was shot “for dealing with the Zionist-Jordanian plan aimed at liquidating the Palestinian cause.” The two were also charged with the murder of an Israeli Druze border policeman and a Jewish shopper in the Nablus market, the sources said.
