The problems of Latin America must be confronted by all countries of the region, Brazilian President Jose Sarney said at a dinner during his official four-day visit.

“Latin American integration today is one of the top priorities of Brazil’s foreign policy. We can do more together than apart,” Sarney said Monday night at the dinner hosted in his honor by President Miguel de la Madrid.

De la Madrid said that protectionist measures adopted by the industrialized countries and speculative practices in world markets “have accentuated the commercial and financial imbalances that impede needed growth and modernization.”
