Lonetree Won’t Take Stand

Marine Sgt. Clayton Lonetree wanted to take the stand in his spy trial, but his lawyers, doubtful of his steadiness, said today that they will rest their case without calling him or any other witnesses.

“I think he’s too passive a guy, too easily manipulated,” defense attorney William Kunstler said. “We think he’d agree with everything we said and everything the prosecution said.” The prosecution rested its case Wednesday. Proceedings in the case of the former Moscow embassy guard are to resume Friday.
