Argentine Woman, 49, Has 32nd Child, and That’s Enough
A 49-year-old woman gave birth to her 32nd child, and said today she expects “some kind of government assistance” because the youngest seven of her brood still live at home.
Mara Benita Olivera delivered her latest child--a healthy boy weighing 8.8 pounds--on Wednesday at Cochagual Hospital, doctors said.
Olivera, who was born in Germany and moved to Argentina at the age of 3, has 25 children by her former husband and seven by her current spouse.
Olivera, who lives and works on a farm, became a mother at 13 when she delivered triplets. She also has given birth to one pair of twins.
“Would I try again? Oh, no! I’m too old. I believe I’m not able to bear more children. Another one and I die!”
According to the Guinness Book of Records, the currently most prolific mother is Leontina Albina of San Antonio, Chile, who has 55.
