The Navy successfully tested a “major breakthrough” missile Tuesday that has the first-ever capability of dropping small bombs along a 500-mile flight path, officials said.

The Tomahawk cruise missile successfully demonstrated a conventional land attack capability in a test flight launched from a vessel off Point Mugu and ending in China Lake, about 175 miles northeast of Los Angeles, Lt. Cmdr. Don Lewis said.
