Marcos Hawaii Exile Extended
The United States has granted former Philippine leader Ferdinand E. Marcos and his wife, Imelda, the right to remain in their Hawaiian exile for another year, the Immigration and Naturalization Service said.
The extension was under “parole status,” meaning that if Marcos and his entourage leave the country without permission, they would have to reapply to return to the United States. But Marcos was forbidden last month by U.S. officials from leaving Oahu.
Marcos, whose existing parole would have expired today, said through an aide that he was “very grateful” for his continued welcome in the United States.
The Aquino government also expressed pleasure that Marcos could remain in Hawaii.
