Five members of the Juarez Autonomous University women’s basketball team were killed when a bus hit the car in which they were riding near Chihuahua, Mexico.
Eyewitnesses said the bus only had its parking lights on when it struck a Volkswagen carrying the five women on the Pan American Highway. All five were killed instantly, and the bus driver fled, officials said.
Police identified the victims as Marta Vargas Castillo, Monserrat Leticia Garcia Moreno, Maria del Pilar Luna Cervantes, Irma Zepeda Saucedo and Maria de Lourdes Villar Rodriguez. The women were apparently returning to Juarez after a game.
