Sri Lanka freed 345 more Tamil detainees under a peace plan aimed at ending the four-year-old rebellion by Tamil separatists. Another 600 are to be released Wednesday, the state-run radio reported. The latest release brought to at least 1,593 the number of Tamils freed since the Indian-brokered peace accord was signed July 29. The pact calls for Tamils to surrender their weapons, Sri Lanka to release all Tamil prisoners, India to guarantee the peace and Sri Lanka to grant autonomy in Tamil-majority areas.
