Your article ends: “Bringing a new life into the world is a little like letting go of a previous existence--confronting one’s mortality and saying goodby to Never-

Never Land.” That’s not necessarily true. I know a few people who are having a hard time with the likelihood that they will never have kids, and I know some people who are childless and in their 40s who are completely comfortable with their own mortality and their decisions not to have had kids. Even assuming a “love conquers all” attitude, they know that they simply don’t have the money for a family. And then, of course, there are plenty of bitter parents who are disappointed with the way that their kids turned out.
