“The New Shotgun Weddings” neatly avoids the main problem of all the selfish, self-centered actions of these couples. Where passive-aggressive actions (such as manipulation) and denial come into play, the anger remains in the relationships, being passed on to yet another generation of children.

So all of you who decide to justify your actions with the reasoning that it “may make you uneasy, but it’s not that bad,” as Horowitz so calmly puts it, you had better be sure your act is together enough to face years of psychotherapy, ulcers, divorces and delinquent children.

The bottom line is that you continue to perpetuate the lie. What has happened to the concepts of honesty and self-esteem--

the only two concepts you probably really need to keep relationships viable and to successfully raise children?
