Pope John Paul’s Visit to L.A.

Share

A couple of paragraphs in the coverage about the Pope’s dialogues in The Times (Part I, Sept. 16) leave me with the impression that the Pope, besides his talents as poet, playwright and actor, is also a semanticist. In his discussions with the media and others in communications, the Pope discussed “the naked pursuit of success.” The lure of profit “places you under extreme pressures to be successful, without telling you what ‘success’ really is. . . . “

I, for one, am always pleased to see issues raised and explored about the words which confront us in our daily lives.
