WALKKIDS: Sony is introducing a line of portable electronic equipment for children. The “My First Sony” products include a specially designed “Walkman” portable stereo, two cassette player/recorders (one with an AM/FM radio, the other with a microphone that allows the child to sing along with music) and a walkie-talkie set. While the designs feature bright colors (mainly red) and arching plastic handles, a Sony spokesman emphasized “These are not toys.” One clue that he’s right: Prices from $35 to $60.
