Australian industrialist Alan Bond raised a hostile $1.01-billion offer for G. Heileman Brewing of La Crosse, Wis., to a $1.08-billion bid that may become a friendly purchase as a result of new state legislation restricting unsolicited takeovers. Heileman Chairman Russell G. Cleary said negotiations were continuing on job security for Heileman workers in the event that Bond, whose Bond Corp. is Australia’s biggest brewing concern, acquires the company, one of Wisconsin’s most important employers and the nation’s fourth-largest brewer.
