The World : U.S., Poland OK Full Ties
Poland and the United States will soon exchange ambassadors, marking a return to full diplomatic relations after more than four years, spokesman Jerzy Urban said in Warsaw. He did not specify a date. The United States scaled down its Warsaw representation to the charge d’affaires level in early 1983 as one of a series of measures in retaliation for the suppression of the Solidarity trade union under martial law. Last February, President Reagan lifted sanctions and restored preferential trading status for Poland after Poland’s release of all officially acknowledged political prisoners. In Washington, meanwhile, officials said the new U.S. ambassador to Warsaw will be career diplomat John Davis, the current charge d’affaires there.
