More Than Looking

In “Minding Their Manors” (Sept. 6), about the preservation of the San Dieguito River Valley, golf professional Tommy Jacobs is quoted as saying, “The environmentalists want everything kept natural, but they don’t want to pay for it. They want somebody else to buy it and pay taxes on it so they can look at it.” That insensitive comment puts what most developers feel in a nutshell.

I wish to preserve the beautiful San Dieguito River Valley not just so I can “look at it” at someone else’s expense, but to preserve the wildlife and natural resources for future generations to enjoy. Thus, I support keeping the valley in its natural state (at least what’s left of it).

Although this viewpoint may seem idealistic, I would venture to say there are many more citizens who would rather preserve the valley than developers who want to destroy it to make a quick dollar.
