San Diego Soccer Roundup : Welsh and Duke Score to Lead USD to 2-0 Win

Bob Welsh and Chris Duke scored goals in the first half Wednesday and Scott Huckleberry stopped five shots for his third consecutive shutout as the University of San Diego defeated UC Irvine, 2-0, in a nonconference college soccer match at USD.

Welsh scored at the three-minute mark of the first half and Duke scored at the 38-minute mark. UC Irvine had only six shots. USD is 6-2-1.

In other nonconference games:

United States International 4, Loyola Marymount 0--Jon Sissons scored three goals, two on penalty kicks, as the Gulls (4-4) won at home. Sissons scored two goals in the first half to give USIU a 2-0 lead. Oscar Rodriguez and Seth Corrigan combined on the shutout.

UC San Diego 3, Point Loma Nazarene College 1--Piter Koopman and Scott Goodman each scored a goal in the first half to help UCSD (4-3-2) to a 2-0 halftime lead at home.
