The Soviet Union may stay away from the 1988 Olympic Games at Seoul, South Korea, Soviet deputy sports minister Nikolai Rusak warned.

Rusak said Soviet participation in the Games depends on the outcome of talks between North and South Korea. The two countries are still discussing what share of the Games should be held in North Korea, although Juan Antonio Samaranch, president of the International Olympic Committee, said recently that the IOC has offered North Korea all it intends to offer.

“A final decision on whether the Soviet Union will attend the Seoul Olympics will be taken at the next Soviet Olympic Committee meeting,” Rusak said.
