GUATEMALA CITY —
At least 14 people were killed when a river near Guatemala’s border with Mexico jumped its banks and flooded several towns, local civil defense authorities said Friday.
Recent heavy rains caused the Valpariso River to overflow on Thursday and flood villages near the border town of Mesilla, they said.
The authorities said the total number of victims could grow as rescue efforts continue.
