Arson Attempt on W. Berlin Magnetic Rail Line Foiled
A guard foiled a suspected arson attempt on West Berlin’s experimental Maglev magnetic levitation railway line on Friday, police said.
The guard found cans filled with an inflammable liquid after smelling gasoline at one of the stations on the one-mile rail line linking the city’s cultural quarter with the existing transport network. No arrests were reported.
The opening of the Maglev, a train that floats just above the tracks on a strong magnetic field, was delayed after two cars were burned in an attack earlier this year.
