Mathias Rust, the 19-year-old West German pilot sentenced Sept. 4 to four years in a labor camp for flying his light plane across the Soviet Union to a landing in Red Square, will be released and sent home to Hamburg next month, the London Sunday Express reported. It quoted unidentified Soviet government sources as saying that Rust will be freed Nov. 7, the 70th anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution. The decision is being made because Soviet leaders are convinced that Rust did nothing sinister and that there is no point in keeping him in prison, the newspaper said.
